Here are some key specifications to consider when picking a surfboard for kids and how to navigate them.
SizeThe size of the surfboard is one of the most important factors to consider. It includes the length, width, and thickness of the board. A longer and wider board provides more stability, which is ideal for beginners. For kids, a board between 6 to 8 feet in length is generally recommended. If the child is very young or small, a shorter board around 6 feet might be better. As they grow and improve their skills, they can transition to a slightly longer board. The right size helps them balance and catch waves more easily.
VolumeVolume refers to the amount of space the surfboard occupies, measured in liters. It combines the length, width, and thickness to determine the board's buoyancy. Higher volume boards float better and are easier to paddle, making them suitable for beginners. For kids, a board with a volume between 40 to 60 liters is typically a good starting point. If the child is heavier or less experienced, opt for a higher volume. As they gain confidence and skill, they can move to a lower volume board for better maneuverability.
